Ares is the son of Zeus and Hera. He is often dress in full battle armor, much like Aphrodite, though he was a god of bloodlust and war, merciless and cruel unlike the wiser and more meticulous Athena. He is despised by the gods because of his recklessness and violence, though he does maintain an affair with Aphrodite. In the book, he supports both sides (given his warlike nature), but Aphrodite seduced and persuaded him to fight with the Trojans. He is wounded by the Argive Diomedes when Athena provides him with courage and assistance.
